TourismTourism is also well placed in the Territory, welcoming around 1.5 million visitors each year and contributing upwards of $1.7 billion to the local economy. In recent years we have seen the addition of sophisticated entertainment, dining and accommodation facilities to our outstanding culture, wilderness and adventure attractions. Darwin’s massive wharf precinct project has seen the recent opening of a new convention centre and cruise ship terminal. Cruise ship visits to Darwin are growing steadily and contributing significantly to trade in Darwin CBD. Domestic tourism arrivals are growing, due in part to fears about political stability and terrorism in many of the traditionally popular overseas destinations. International visitor numbers are also showing good trends as Australia is seen more and more as a safe and stable destination. For anyone seeking economic strength and future potential, it really doesn’t get much better than Darwin. |
